Taste

Taste is ones liking of a certain style, music, etc.

Consumerism

Consumerism is the want to have what you dont need, for example shopping.

Emotional Energy

Emotional Energy is the energy that a person feels when they are taking part in a group activity that calls for energy. This is a picture of my friend and boyfriend at a Left Over Crack concert, feelin the energy of the crowd.

The Importance of Rituals

The importance of rituals is when people identify with each other as a member of a group, and a place where people share the same sacred emblems, and religion.

Life at Home

Family

A family is a group of people that are bond by genetics, legal, or emotion relationships.

Extended Family

Extended family is those  living with in a close range of each other.

Nuclear Family
A nuclear family is a man and a woman, with two or more children, living in the same house.

Exogamy

Exogamy is marriage to someone with a different social class then you. For example, a bi-racial couple.

Monogamy

Monogamy is when you are married to just one person, considered the legal way to get married.

Gender and Sexuality

Sex
Sex is what one gender see's themselves to be, whether it is female or male.
For example, I would consider myself a female.

Gender
Gender is the way someone were to behave, for example masculine or feminine.

Expressive Role

The expressive role is normally shown by women, they are  known as being more nurturing and normally holds the family together. For an example of expressive role I have chosen to use a picture of my mom.

Instrumental Role

The instrumental role is a more masculine role, its more commonly played by the father. Father's are suppose to be seen as strict and have more authority.I have chosen to use a picture of my cool biker dad.

Families

Families normally help take part in the gender role of children, especially since they raise them a certain way it helps the child to form their mind around what gender they most likely are or are going to be.

Culture

Material Culture

Material culture is a material object that people give meaning to, normally an object of value. For this picture I put a snowboard, this is something of value that is given meaning by those who value snowboarding.

Symbolic Culture
Symbolic culture is a way that people  believe or think,  and also ways of acting.

Signs

Signs are used to show meaning to something. For example, a no tresspassing sign.
Gestures

Gestures are signs that we make using our bodies that have meaning to them.  For example, gang signs.

Folkway

A folkway is a common act, that shows social interaction, and acceptance of others. For example, in this picture I'm opening the door for Natalie, which follows the guidelines of a folkway.

The Self and Social Interaction

Self
Self is when someone self identifies themselves as their own individual, and is different from others.

Peers
Peers are others that help form our opinions and views, they become more important in kids lives as they grow up because they are around them more often. 

Mass Media
Mass media over time changes how we view things, and are family values, instills norms in us that we wouldn't normally have. Television shows us the new up and coming stars, and shows people how they should look and act, mass media changes the ways that humans think, and ultimately changes us for the worst, by becoming what society wants us to be.

Game
Game is several individuals coming together, it helps in the development of self, this idea was founded by George Herbert Mead.

Family
Family helps us identify who we are and what our values are, they set us up for are future, and they shape who we are. For example, i used a picture of my sister and her family, they are good parents and raise their children in the most respectful way, and they instill their values into their children.

Social Class and Inequality

Slavery
Slavery is when someone has ownership over someone, and has them preform tasks for them. For example, I used this picture of me being Katy's table as she poors herself some tea.

Middle Class
Middle Class is a working class group that are known as "white collar workers". I put a picture of a middle class house, in a middle class neighborhood.

Lower Class
Lower class is people that typically have no jobs, and are given the name homeless, and normally are illiterate or have little literacy. Here is an example of a homeless Kate.

Cultural Capital

Cultural Capital is when each social class has its tastes, habits, and skills, that help us get advantages in society.
Social Mobility

Social Mobility is the movement of individuals or groups through social classes, either going up or down.

Race and Ethnicity

Segregation

Segregation is when groups are legally seperated because of race. For example, in this picture it shows how there is racial segregation.
Invisible Knapsack

The invisible knapsack suggests that there are unearned resources, these unearned resources aren't suppose to be noticed but thats not always the case.
Minority Group

A minority group is a group of ethnicity that is denied power or the same equality as others, as comparred to the majority. These groups aren't always less but maybe less powerful.

Racism

Racism is certain beliefs that one race is more superior over the other, leaving the "lesser" race to be treated unequally to the "superior" race. This picture shows racism on top of stereotypes.

Ethnicity
Ethinicity is a common language, religion, culture, beliefs, and nationality.

For example, a phillipino family:
